First Contact Practitioners – Thoracic Outlet Syndrome Workshop

Overview: 

This two-hour interactive educational session seeks to deepen healthcare professionals’ knowledge and understanding of thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS). 

Learning outcomes: 

  1. Explore the relevant anatomy  
  1. Understand the epidemiology and aetiology  
  1. Brief overview of venous and arterial TOS 
  1. Case study 
  1. Neurogenic TOS 
  • Subjective history 
  • Objective history 
  • Formulating the diagnosis 
  • Investigations 
  • Understanding differentials 
  • Management options (Exercise management, Surgical management, Local referral pathways)

 

Facilitator: Darren Cook  

Darren Cook is a First Contact Physiotherapist working in a Bristol based GP surgery, and works as an Advanced Paramedic Practitioner in urgent care and for the South Western Ambulance Service. Darren has first-hand experience of thoracic outlet syndrome and recognises the difficulties with assessing, diagnosing and treating this condition. As a result, he aims to increase the understanding of this condition among healthcare professionals.
